Tzaneen Jukado Judo Club under the guidance of sensei Ivan Steyn, has been around for decades and has taught many a student the skills of this Eastern self-defense sport.
Sensei Steyn called on locals and specifically new residents in town to visit his club and consider taking up Judo as a sport. According to him, Judo is one of the best sports to acquire self-defense skills whilst enjoying some socializing.
Judo does not only consist of defending yourself, but fitness also plays a role. One of the most valuable lessons from Eastern self-defense systems is the focus on discipline and respect.
Sensei Steyn who has been involved in this sport since early childhood, said that the lockdown of the Covid-19 pandemic caused many of the students to quit the club as they were prevented from leaving their homes.
Despite those regulations now lifted, many of the students did not return and the number of attendees has dwindled. Sensei Steyn would like to call upon those students who have not returned yet, to get into their judo gear and come join the classes again.
New judo members are also most welcome to join. The Jukado Judo Club practices on Monday’s and Wednesday’s from 18:00 until 19:15 and is situated at the Laeveld Dutch Reformed Church in Claude Wheatly Street, right opposite HI-Q Tire Fitment Centre and Tzaneen Technical College.
The club will host open practice sessions on Saturday’s from 08:00 until 12:00. For further information people can contact sensei Ivan Steyn at 083 348 6711.
