The Limpopo Department of Sports, Art and Culture held its annual awards on Saturday the 26th of February at Meropa Casino & Entertainment World. The 2021 nominees in the different categories of sport, arts and culture fraternities were bestowed with cash prizes and trophies.

Ben Vorster High’s first netball team was nominated in the category for Limpopo School Team of the Year, and subsequently walked away with the coveted crown. Vossie coach, Mandi van Heerden, received the award and a cheque of R20 000 on behalf of the girls.

It was even more gratifying for the coach when she was congratulated for her team’s performance by the South African Proteas Netball President, Cecilia Molokwane, who was a guest of honour at the event.

Molokwane was also one of a few recipients who received an Excellence Award from the MEC of Sport, Arts and Culture, Thandi Moraka. The awards is an initiative by the department aimed at rewarding excellence in the province, and to encourage men and women to continue representing Limpopo with pride.

The other award winners included Newcomer of the Year – Fredrick Willem Pretorius, Photographer of the Year – Denga Netshituka, Sports Administrator of the year – Mokgadi Mswazi, Journalist of the Year – Michael Makungo, Sportsman of the Year – Rahul Van Manen, Sports woman of the Year – Boitumelo Mahloko, Coach of the Year – Jan Roets, Volunteer of the Year – Renuka Ramroop, Sports Team of the Year – Limpopo Softball Provincial Male Team, Sports Woman of the year with disability – Sheryl James, Sportsman of the year with disability – Innocent Masakona, School Sports Team of the Year – Hoërskool Ben Vorster, Recreation Body of the year – Limpopo Jukskei Federation, Federation of the Year – Fencing, Indigenous Games Team of the Year – Limpopo Jukskei u/13 team, Male Artist of the Year – Joe Shirimane, Female Artist of the Year – Makhadzi, Actress of the Year – Lebo Mpsyana, Actor of the Year – Wiseman Zitha, Praise Poet of the Year – Ntombin Ya Mutsonga, Radio Presenter of the Year – Mpho Nefale, Fashion Designer of the Year – Quinton Masoga.
