Tzaneen Tennis Club has produced some great tennis players over the last five decades. Currently, Zoë Venter is ranked number one in Limpopo and 14th in South Africa in the u/14 division for girls and Marais Botha is the top-ranked u/18 boys’ player in the province.
The Club currently comprises 52 members and any person who would like to enjoy the social and health benefits this sport offers, is welcome to join. It is a sport that can be enjoyed by young and old alike, as the ages of their members range from primary school level to 70+ years.
The Club House of Tzaneen Tennis Club was recently upgraded and offers great facilities for social gatherings and, of course, to play tennis. All the courts have flood lights which is ideal for playing later into the evenings. This year the club’s members plan to host a social tournament every quarter and host its Club Championships during the winter months.
Several of Tzaneen Tennis Club’s players also compete in provincial and invitational tournaments in Polokwane, Louis Trichardt and Phalaborwa. The club plans to host the clubs occasionally from these areas too.
For those who want to improve their game, Reenen Bergmann offers professional coaching to many of the schools in the area and private lessons to individuals. You can get in touch with him by contacting the club.
Applications to join can be made by contacting the treasurer, James Excell, on 084 852 2688. All new members are supplied with keys to the Club House and the tennis courts and can make unlimited use of all the facilities available.
