The annual Dance Fusion Limpopo event was held for the fifth time this year in the school hall fo Merensky High on Friday, the 8th of October. Dancers from all over Limpopo could take part in the competition in either a festive or competitive manner.

Festive entries danced in different levels for a medal and judges score sheet. The dancers that enrolled competitively danced in an advanced section for a medal, judges recorded feedback as well as a placing, (first, second or third) in their categories.

The two judges were Cindy Hamman and Lebo Chauke, both well-known in the industry with loads of competition experience. Cindy Hamman is a qualified dance teacher who specialised in Acrobatics. She has judged over the years for AFSA, Dance Fusion, Acro Fusion and RACA while Lebo Chauke is a qualified dance teacher who currently specialises in and teaches and choreographs Hip Hop and Contemporary dance pieces.

He has judged at IFAA, Dance Wars and auditioned the crew for “Kryptonite Dance Academy” who were the SA’s Got Talent winners in 2016. Lebo is also currently shooting a film as the main character (a rival hip hop crew) in the film ‘Go Gettaz’ which is to air in 2023.

A total of seven dance schools took part in this year’s Dance Fusion Limpopo event which included many competitive entries. The level of performances displayed on the day were of an exceptionally high level and the judges showered contestants with praise for their efforts.

Local dance school, The Dance Place @ Ben Vorster, raked in two gold medals, 12 Pro gold medals, nine platinum and two diamond medals. They also recorded seven first places and one second placing for the competitive entries.

The duo of Jani and Pedrie Minnaar “Earthquake” won a special award for the entertainment value of their performance while Zoë-Leigh Thompson won a special award for “Great Emotional Performance”. The dance duo, Trouble which is Liam O’ Brian and Zila Kruger, were awarded “Awesome Execution and Leaps” special award from the judges.

Overall, the best group item was awarded to the Game of Survival group (Ansuretha Perolt, Liam O’ Brian, Karja and Zila Kruger), who also won the Best Preparation and the Judges Choice Awards. Best Duet went to Liam and Zila, who also walked away with the prize for the Best Competitive Item.
