James Vorster, the current club champion of Tzaneen Country Club and the winner of the Tzaneen
Golf Open, prior in winning the club championship, also competed at this national event. In the fourth round on Thursday the 13th of May, Limpopo’s golfers had their highlight of the tour when they managed to beat the side of Mpumalanga.

“What a day! After a huge battle, our golf players displayed their ‘never give up’ character with a great comeback in the morning to lead the match and hold their nerve to beat Mpumalanga. This was indeed a great team effort all around”, said Jean Sadie, operational manager of the Limpopo Golf Union.

Vorster was in the company of some experienced golf players in his team. His team mates were Neil Rathmann who is the 2020 Toshiba Cup champion, Jannie Bronkhorst who is also a former Toshiba Cup champion along with Thinus Labuschagne, Shaun Mouton, Adam Milanzi, Tiaan Dierdericks, Edwin Mackays and Malebana Pataki.

But it was not all plain sailing for the Limpopo team as they met some formidable competition. On the first day, Monday the 10th of May, team Limpopo played against the side of Eastern Province for their first match. Eastern Province won by a mere point.

On Tuesday, the 11th of May Limpopo faced off against the side of Border. The side of Border however had a field day to win by a comfortable margin, 7½ to Limpopo’s 4½. The Limpopo had a bye for the next round which gave them time to reflect on what needs to be done in order to pull off a win.

It seems the day off had done Vorster and his teammates wonders as they went on to beat Mpumalanga 7 to 5 in an epic battle. In the final round however the side of the Southern Cape brought the Limpopo golfers back to earth with a bang by scoring a convincing win with a final score of 8½ to the 3½ of Limpopo.
